Mastercard Strengthens Asia Pacific Leadership With Six Senior Appointments

Mastercard is strengthening its leadership presence across Asia Pacific with six senior appointments spanning core payments, market development, legal, geographic leadership and Southeast Asia operations.

The leadership changes come as Mastercard continues to deepen its presence across one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse payments markets. The latest addition is Joyce Bo, who joined the company as Executive Vice President, Core Payments, Asia Pacific, effective August 3, 2026.

Bo joins Mastercard from Ant International, where she led payment innovation and the policy centre for Alipay+, the global wallet gateway. At Mastercard, she will oversee a broad portfolio covering consumer products, digital platforms, acceptance, account-to-account payment networks, optimisation and digital assets.

Her experience also spans nearly a decade in investment banking and private equity, including roles at Morgan Stanley and HSBC in Hong Kong.

Building Leadership Across Key Markets

Bo is the latest among a series of senior leaders appointed across Mastercard’s Asia Pacific operations this year.

Abhinav Bhatt took on the role of General Counsel, Asia Pacific, in April. He returned to the region after serving as Assistant General Counsel within Mastercard’s global Commercial and New Payment Flows organisation in New York.

In March, Dr. Peter Robejsek was appointed Executive Vice President, Market Development, Asia Pacific. He relocated from Europe, where he previously served as Mastercard’s Country Manager for Germany.

Meanwhile, Paul Monnington joined Mastercard in January as Division President, Australasia. His remit covers Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. Monnington brings more than 25 years of experience across retail banking, payments and digital transformation, with previous leadership roles at Wpay, Woolworths Group and National Australia Bank.

A New Leadership Structure for Southeast Asia

Mastercard has also reshaped its Southeast Asia leadership structure, introducing two divisions from July 1.

Beena Pothen has been appointed Division President, West Southeast Asia, overseeing Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

Donald Ong will serve as Division President, East Southeast Asia, with responsibility for Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

The new structure gives Mastercard dedicated leadership across two distinct groups of markets, allowing its teams to work more closely with customers and partners while responding to the specific needs of individual economies.

Leadership Built Around the Region

Commenting on the appointments, Richard Wormald, President, Asia Pacific at Mastercard, said the changes are focused on bringing the company closer to its customers and supporting innovation across the region.

“These appointments are about getting closer to customers and helping them innovate with confidence in a rapidly evolving payments landscape,” Wormald said.

Together, the appointments bring experience across payments, banking, technology, digital transformation, policy and market development into Mastercard’s regional leadership team.

For Mastercard, the focus is increasingly on building leadership that understands the complexity of Asia Pacific—from established financial centres to fast-growing digital economies—and can translate that understanding into products, partnerships and payment solutions for the region.
