Reliance Industries-backed Jio Platforms made a strong debut on the stock market on Wednesday, with its shares listing at ₹1,358 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), a premium of approximately 21% over the initial public offering (IPO) price of ₹1,119 per share.
The listing price translated into a gain of ₹239 per share for investors who received shares at the upper end of the IPO price band. At this valuation, Jio Platforms commanded a market capitalisation of approximately ₹12.5 lakh crore, placing it among India’s largest listed companies.
The debut followed the company’s ₹30,213 crore IPO, which attracted substantial investor interest during its three-day subscription window from October 21 to October 23.
IPO Attracts Strong Investor Demand
Jio Platforms’ public issue was subscribed 22.19 times, reflecting demand across institutional, non-institutional and retail investor categories.
Qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) led the subscription, bidding for 70.55 times the shares reserved for their category. The non-institutional investor segment was subscribed 14 times, while the retail investor portion received bids amounting to 2.72 times its allocation.
The IPO comprised a fresh issue of 27 crore equity shares, with no offer-for-sale component. The company had set the price band at ₹1,065–₹1,119 per share.
Ahead of the public issue, Jio Platforms raised ₹8,110 crore from 212 anchor investors. According to the information provided, the anchor book attracted bids worth nearly ₹2.5 lakh crore, exceeding the amount allocated to these investors by more than 30 times.
The anchor investor pool included global investment firms such as BlackRock, Capital Group, Fidelity Investments and T. Rowe Price, alongside domestic mutual funds and insurance companies.
IPO Proceeds to Support Debt Repayment
A significant portion of the IPO proceeds will be directed towards strengthening the company’s financial position.
Jio Platforms plans to use ₹27,500 crore from the proceeds to repay part of the borrowings of its subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm. The remaining funds will be allocated towards general corporate purposes.
The proposed debt repayment is expected to reduce the subsidiary’s outstanding borrowings and support the broader financial requirements of the group’s telecom and digital operations.
Telecom and Digital Services at the Core
Jio Platforms houses Reliance Industries’ telecom and digital businesses, with Reliance Jio Infocomm serving as a key operating subsidiary.
Its offerings span mobile connectivity, fixed broadband and digital services. The business has also been expanding its presence in 5G infrastructure, digital applications and artificial intelligence.
Reliance Jio Infocomm reported 533.3 million subscribers at the end of June 2026, highlighting the scale of its telecom operations and customer base.
The company’s digital ecosystem and subscriber reach have been central to its position in India’s telecommunications market, while its investments in newer technologies reflect its ambitions beyond traditional connectivity services.
Global Technology Investors Back Jio Platforms
Jio Platforms has attracted investments from major global technology companies and institutional investors.
In 2020, Meta and Google invested in the company alongside several private equity firms and other institutional investors. These investments highlighted international investor interest in Jio Platforms’ digital ecosystem and its potential to serve India’s expanding internet user base.
The company’s stock market debut marks another milestone in its evolution as a major player in India’s telecom and digital economy.
A Significant Milestone for India’s Capital Markets
The approximately 21% listing premium marks a strong opening for Jio Platforms in the public markets. The substantial IPO subscription and participation from domestic and international investors point to considerable demand for exposure to the company’s telecom and digital businesses.
The planned deployment of most of the IPO proceeds towards debt repayment also places financial discipline among the key considerations following the listing.
Going forward, investor attention is likely to focus on the company’s ability to sustain growth across connectivity, broadband, digital services and emerging technology segments while managing capital requirements and competition.
Jio Platforms’ entry into the listed market therefore represents both a major corporate milestone for Reliance Industries’ digital business and a significant development for India’s public equity market.
