DJT Microfinance has appointed Sunil Sharma as National Head – Risk Control Unit (RCU), Vigilance and Audit, strengthening its focus on risk management, internal controls and operational governance.
Sharma brings more than 22 years of experience in banking and financial services, including over 19 years at Kotak Mahindra Bank, where he held national-level responsibilities in risk control and fraud risk management. His appointment comes as DJT Microfinance looks to reinforce its internal processes and build a resilient operating framework to support its business expansion.
Extensive Experience in Risk and Fraud Management
Throughout his career, Sharma has developed expertise across several areas of financial risk management, including pre- and post-disbursement controls, fraud detection and prevention, process improvement, and technology-enabled risk management.
His experience in managing risk control functions at the national level is expected to support DJT Microfinance’s efforts to strengthen oversight and improve the effectiveness of its internal control mechanisms.
In the microfinance sector, robust risk management and effective monitoring processes are important for maintaining operational discipline, protecting business integrity and supporting responsible lending practices. Sharma’s appointment reflects the organisation’s emphasis on strengthening these capabilities as its operations evolve.
Leadership Emphasises Governance and Accountability
Commenting on the appointment, Avinash Kumar, Chief Operating Officer of DJT Microfinance, highlighted the importance of effective risk management and governance in supporting the company’s growth strategy.
“As we expand our reach and strengthen our operations, robust risk management and effective governance remain central to our growth strategy. Sunil’s extensive experience in risk control and fraud prevention will help us further strengthen our internal controls, enhance accountability and build a more resilient operating framework,” Kumar said.
His remarks underline the organisation’s focus on aligning operational expansion with stronger internal oversight and accountability.
Focus on Proactive Risk Identification and Process Discipline
Sharma said he intends to strengthen the organisation’s risk management and audit framework through proactive risk identification, effective controls and improved process discipline.
“I look forward to strengthening the organisation’s risk management and audit framework through proactive risk identification, effective controls and greater process discipline. My focus will be on building a strong culture of vigilance and accountability that safeguards business integrity while supporting responsible and sustainable growth,” Sharma said.
His priorities include reinforcing vigilance practices, improving control mechanisms and promoting accountability across the organisation. These efforts are expected to contribute to a more structured approach to identifying operational risks and addressing potential vulnerabilities.
Strengthening DJT Microfinance’s Operating Framework
The appointment reinforces DJT Microfinance’s focus on institutional governance, risk oversight and sustainable business growth. By bringing experienced leadership into its Risk Control Unit, Vigilance and Audit function, the organisation aims to strengthen its internal processes while supporting its broader operational objectives.
As financial institutions continue to place greater emphasis on fraud prevention, process integrity and governance, effective risk control frameworks remain an important component of long-term business resilience. Sharma’s appointment signals DJT Microfinance’s continued focus on building these capabilities alongside its growth plans.
