Bank of Baroda has appointed Rakesh Nema as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO), with the appointment taking effect from August 5, 2026. The move comes as the public sector bank continues to strengthen its technology capabilities and expand its digital banking operations.
In his new role, Nema will be responsible for overseeing the bank’s technology strategy and supporting various digital initiatives. His responsibilities are expected to include technology transformation, digital innovation, cybersecurity, enterprise technology infrastructure and the adoption of emerging technologies across the organisation.
Focus on Digital Banking
The appointment comes at a time when technology continues to play an increasingly important role in the banking sector. Banks are investing in digital platforms and technology infrastructure to improve customer access, simplify banking processes and strengthen operational capabilities.
Bank of Baroda has been expanding its digital banking ecosystem across multiple areas, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, automation and data analytics. These technologies are increasingly being used across the financial services sector to support faster services, improve efficiency and strengthen digital operations.
With Nema taking charge of the technology function, the bank will continue to focus on building technology systems that support its growing digital operations and changing customer requirements.
Strengthening Technology Infrastructure
Nema brings experience across information technology, digital banking, enterprise architecture, cybersecurity and large-scale technology transformation. His background is expected to support the bank’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its technology infrastructure and digital capabilities.
Cybersecurity is also becoming an important area of focus for financial institutions as banking services increasingly move to digital platforms. Banks are required to maintain secure technology environments while ensuring customers can access services across digital channels.
As CTO, Nema will also work on technology resilience and the implementation of systems that can support the bank’s operations at scale.
Supporting Future Banking Operations
The banking industry has been witnessing steady adoption of digital technologies as customers increasingly use mobile and online channels for everyday financial services. This has led financial institutions to focus on technology investments across customer-facing platforms as well as internal operations.
For Bank of Baroda, the appointment of a dedicated technology leader comes as the bank continues to develop its digital infrastructure and modernise its technology ecosystem.
The technology function is expected to remain central to the bank’s efforts to improve digital services, strengthen operational efficiency and support innovation across its banking operations.
Nema’s appointment is therefore positioned as part of Bank of Baroda’s broader technology and digital transformation efforts as the lender continues to adapt to the evolving requirements of India’s financial services sector.
