BHIM Payments App Partners with Goonj for ‘Meethi Diwali 2026’ Campaign to Support Children’s Education

BHIM Payments App, developed by NPCI BHIM, has partnered with development organisation Goonj for the third edition of its ‘Meethi Diwali’ campaign. The initiative aims to support underprivileged children by providing essential school kits through everyday digital payments.

Under the campaign, BHIM Payments App will contribute towards providing school kits to children who need learning support for every seventh transaction made by a user on the app between October 19 and November 8, 2026.

Announced in Bengaluru on October 27, the initiative encourages users to choose BHIM for their regular payments while contributing to a cause focused on education. The campaign connects the convenience of digital payments with an effort to improve access to essential learning materials for children.

BHIM and Goonj Connect Digital Payments with Education

For ‘Meethi Diwali 2026’, BHIM Payments App has joined hands with Goonj, a civic and development organisation known for its pan-India initiatives focused on education, community development and disaster relief.

The partnership aims to make everyday transactions part of a wider community effort. By linking users’ payment activity to the distribution of school kits, the campaign seeks to extend the spirit of Diwali beyond personal celebrations and into classrooms where children need educational resources.

BHIM said the initiative reflects its commitment to making digital payments a part of everyday life while creating opportunities for meaningful social impact. It also reinforces the idea behind its positioning as Bharat Ka Apna Payments App, where familiar everyday actions can contribute to a larger purpose.

NPCI BHIM Highlights the Importance of Giving Back

Commenting on the initiative, Gaurav Kochhar, Chief of Business at NPCI BHIM, said the campaign aims to connect the simple act of making a digital payment with the opportunity to support a child’s education.

Kochhar noted that every child deserves the chance to learn, grow and work towards a brighter future. He said the partnership with Goonj would help turn everyday transactions on BHIM into an opportunity to provide children with essential learning materials.

He also highlighted the belief that technology can create a meaningful difference when it is designed around people’s needs, adding that even small actions can contribute to a larger social impact.

Goonj Emphasises Dignity and Citizen Participation

Anshu Gupta, Founder and Executive Director of Goonj, described the association as a meaningful step towards connecting everyday technology with conscious citizen participation.

Gupta said Goonj values BHIM’s effort to turn routine transactions into tangible support for children, helping ensure they receive essential educational resources with dignity.

Goonj’s work across education, community development and disaster relief provides the broader social context for the campaign, which focuses on improving access to learning materials for children in need.

SoCheers Sees an Opportunity in Everyday Digital Habits

Mehul Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO of SoCheers, also shared his perspective on the campaign.

He said the idea behind ‘Meethi Diwali’ draws on the familiar Indian tradition of sharing celebrations and extending happiness to others. The campaign also explores how the spirit of giving can continue beyond the festive season and how everyday digital transactions can contribute to a meaningful cause.

Gupta noted that as more aspects of daily life take place on mobile phones, there is an opportunity to make routine digital habits count for something beyond the immediate purchase.

Extending the Spirit of Diwali Beyond the Festive Season

With its third edition, ‘Meethi Diwali 2026’ continues BHIM Payments App’s annual festive initiative, linking digital payments with a social cause.

By partnering with Goonj, BHIM aims to encourage users to make everyday payments while supporting access to essential school supplies for underprivileged children.

The campaign highlights how digital payment platforms can use familiar consumer behaviour to encourage wider participation in social initiatives, extending the spirit of giving beyond the festive period.
