The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the amalgamation of the Indian branches of Emirates NBD Bank P.J.S.C. with RBL Bank Limited, with the merger set to take effect from December 1, 2026. Following the amalgamation, all Indian branches of Emirates NBD will operate as branches of RBL Bank.
The approval marks another step in the integration of the two banks’ operations in India, bringing Emirates NBD’s existing branch network under RBL Bank’s operations. The scheme has been sanctioned under Section 44A(4) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
Emirates NBD, headquartered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is an international banking group with operations across multiple markets. Its Indian banking operations have been conducted through branches, while RBL Bank operates as a private sector bank offering a range of banking and financial services across India.
The amalgamation forms part of the broader strategic relationship between the two institutions. In June 2026, Emirates NBD completed its acquisition of a 60% stake in RBL Bank through a capital infusion of approximately Rs 26,000 crore, following the necessary regulatory approvals.
The integration of Emirates NBD’s Indian branches into RBL Bank is expected to bring the former’s local banking operations within RBL Bank’s existing structure. The transition will take effect on December 1, 2026, in accordance with the approved scheme.
The development represents a further milestone in the banks’ integration and the expansion of their combined presence in India’s banking sector.
